Perseverance – James 1:

James 1:

2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (KJV)

James is addressing some of the men of the twelve tribes. He is telling them that they will be going through trials but in their faith in Jesus, they can count on these trials as good things.

James is saying that although things may look bleak, they can always find some silver lining in their lives. Or they can remember the trials that they have already gone through and remember that at the end, when they looked back on it, they are able to see how patience, trust, faith, belief and love could been seen as a result of it.

James is encouraging them to stand strong and telling them that although they should be patient, they should not be standing still waiting for the trial to end but moving forward, with the faith that everything will work out for the best.

My Lord,

You are in control of all things in my life and I know that includes the times of trials and temptations.

You don’t cause them but you allow them and when they happen, it’s always for a reason.

Knowing that trials are allowed to bring patience into my life, I’m supposed to count it as a joy when trials appear. It doesn’t say I’m supposed to be joyful but I am to remain positive to get through them without grumbling and complaining.

As I do this my faith will grow. As it grows, I will become a more patient person in other areas of my life.

It’s a tough job to stay positive and remain happy and in faith, when everything seems to be closing in around me.

I need to remember that you said WHEN trials come, not IF trials come. This shows me that they will come and I need to be prepared and stand in faith through them.

If I grumble and complain then I’m not learning and growing. Lord, you didn’t say I’d have to BE happy during these times, only that I should count it as happy and grow in these times in patience.

It’s my job to turn to you and thank you for all that is happening in my life at all times, whether good or bad, knowing that the trying of my faith works patience.

Father, this is a tough one to get through, so I pray that whenever I’m am in a situation that I don’t like, let me feel your love, despite what I am seeing and going through. Help me grow through the experience.

Thank you Father that you allow me to go through trials which help me become a better person.

I praise you that you always know what’s best for me and love me enough to help me grow.

In the precious name of my Lord, Jesus Christ, I pray.

Amen.
